installation, happening | space 2
part of the London-Berlin visual arts exchange, May-Nov 2002

'Records' is a ten-day event presented by the Berlin-based artist and curator Sandra Rubies as part of the London and Berlin 'Gallery Swap' organized by Goethe Institut Inter Nationes and The British Council.

On one level, 'Records' is an installation: the objects are colourful records, used to operate in the emotional space between souvenir and trash; the sounds are forgotten or unknown tunes. But 'Records' is also a happening that will develop with the collaboration of guests from Berlin as well as local artists. It is a work in progress exploring the past, present, and future through memories and sensations. Artists will intervene and with audience participation the atmosphere will continually change, creating a testimony and record of communication and dialogue. Special guests include Sampson Zaharkiv-CEO, Grumpy Bear, and Freckles.

'Records' is an evolving process. During the exhibition time Sandra Rubies and Sampson Zaharkiv will investigate the relationship between colour and sound in live performances at 3pm daily. The audience is asked to participate by writing a message about their feelings in relation to the installation. These messages will be written on postcards provided, and can be posted in the black Ballot box. A reading of the postcards is scheduled for the closing event on 22nd June which will also include a public talk.
