Another Life | Michael Grossbard

“ ...living another life; never another life... ”
13th Floor Elevators

These paintings show another life in the sense of another person — someone over there! But perhaps it is also another life to one's own. Another life can be imagined, wished for or denied, a parallel or thrown existence, where both characters might be somewhere else, or someone else...

The sequence of paintings reflect a kind of narrative in the elements and paint means: the shower screen, glass door, water splashing; what is mirrored or in shadow in the varying light and space. They are paintings about being other than ... almost as hallucination, around basic, personal, bodily functions.

What might it mean to have 'another life'?
